Ingredients
For the Cake (3 layers)
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup cocoa powder
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup buttermilk (or milk + 1 tsp vinegar)
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp nutmeg
- ½ tsp salt
Chaos Mix-Ins (fold into batter)
- ½ cup crushed Oreos
- ½ cup mini marshmallows
- ½ cup white chocolate chips
- ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts
- ½ cup holiday sprinkles (red & green)
Cream Cheese Frosting
- 200g cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
Buttercream Frosting
- 1 cup butter
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tbsp milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
Salted Caramel
- ½ cup caramel sauce
- Pinch of flaky sea salt
Instructions
1. Bake the Cake Layers
- Preheat oven to 180°C / 350°F and grease three 8-inch pans.
- Whisk flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, spices, salt, and sugar.
- Add eggs, oil, buttermilk, and vanilla — mix until smooth.
- Fold in the “chaos mix-ins.” Do not overmix.
- Divide batter into pans and bake 25–30 minutes.
- Let cool fully.
2. Make Frostings
Cream Cheese Frosting
Beat butter + cream cheese → add sugar gradually → add vanilla.
Buttercream
Beat butter until fluffy → add sugar slowly → add milk + vanilla.
Tip: Chill frostings 10 minutes for perfect spreading.
3. Assemble Your Chaos Cake
- Place first cake layer
- Spread cream cheese frosting
- Drizzle caramel + sprinkles
- Add second cake layer
- Spread buttercream
- Add marshmallows + chocolate chips
- Add final cake layer
- Frost entire cake with buttercream
