For brushing:
2 tablespoons melted butter
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
Instructions:
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
Spread marinara sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese, chopped pepperoni, and chopped basil (if using) over the sauce.
Starting from one long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Slice the log into 1-inch pieces and place them on the prepared baking sheet, cut side up.
