Trisha Yearwood Apple Dumplings

Ingredients:

2 Granny Smith apples
1 can (8 oz) crescent rolls
1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup Sprite or 7UP
A pinch of ground nutmeg

Directions:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Peel and core the apples, then cut each apple into 4 wedges.
Separate the crescent roll dough into triangles and place an apple wedge on the wide end of each triangle. Roll up starting at the wide end, and pinch to seal. Place in a 9×13 inch baking dish.
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Stir in the sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until the sugar is dissolved. Pour this mixture over the rolled-up dough and apples in the baking dish.
Pour the Sprite or 7UP around the edges of the pan, being careful not to wash the sugar mixture off the dumplings.
Sprinkle the top with a pinch of nutmeg.
Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until golden brown and apples are tender.
