Sausage Gravy and Biscuit Pie

Ingredients:

1 lb breakfast sausage
2 cups milk
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
1 can (8-count) refrigerated biscuit dough
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 tablespoon butter, melted

Directions:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned and fully cooked. Break it up into crumbles as it cooks.
Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir to coat. Cook for 1-2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Continue to cook until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
Season the gravy with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and crushed red pepper flakes if using.
Remove the skillet from heat and pour the sausage gravy into a 9-inch pie dish.
Separate the biscuit dough into individual biscuits. Flatten each biscuit slightly and place them on top of the gravy, covering the surface.
Brush the tops of the biscuits with melted butter and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over them.
Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
