Ingredients:
12 oz chow mein noodles (or thin egg noodles)
1 lb beef sirloin, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons vegetable oil (divided)
1 small onion, thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 bell pepper, thinly sliced
2 cups cabbage, shredded
2 carrots, julienned
1/2 cup green onions, chopped
2 tablespoons dark soy sauce
1 tablespoon sesame oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
Procedure:
Prepare the Noodles:
Cook the chow mein noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain, rinse with cold water, and set aside.
Marinate the Beef:
In a bowl, combine the thinly sliced beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, cornstarch, and a pinch of pepper. Let the beef marinate for at least 15-20 minutes.
Cook the Beef:
Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the marinated beef in a single layer and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
Sauté the Vegetables:
In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the sliced onions, garlic, and bell peppers, and stir-fry for 2 minutes until slightly softened. Then, add the shredded cabbage, julienned carrots, and green onions, cooking for another 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.
Combine Noodles and Beef:
Add the cooked noodles and beef back into the skillet with the vegetables. Pour in the dark soy sauce and sesame oil, tossing everything together until evenly coated. Stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes to heat everything through.
Serve:
Garnish with sesame seeds and additional green onions if desired. Serve hot and enjoy your savory and delicious beef chow mein!
