Chicken Fried Steak with Gravy
A Southern classic, chicken fried steak features crispy, golden-fried beef cube steaks with a creamy, peppery gravy. Perfect for a hearty and comforting meal!
Ingredients:
For the steak:
4 beef cube steaks
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp salt
2 eggs
1/4 cup milk
Vegetable oil for frying
For the gravy:
2 tbsp reserved frying oil
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
Steaks: In a dish, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. In another, whisk eggs and milk. Dip steaks in flour, then egg, then flour again.
Fry: Heat oil in a skillet, fry steaks for 4 minutes per side until golden. Remove and keep warm.
Gravy: In the same pan, make a roux with reserved oil and flour, whisk in milk, cook until thickened, season.
Serve steaks with gravy poured over.
