Braided Beef Burrito Braid
Ingredients
For the Dough:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup sour cream
1 egg (for egg wash)
For the Filling:
1 lb ground beef
1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Mexican blend)
1 cup lettuce, shredded
1/2 cup taco sauce or salsa
1/2 teaspoon taco seasoning (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Cut in the softened butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Stir in the sour cream until a dough forms. Knead gently on a floured surface until smooth.
Roll the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
Step 2: Prepare the Filling
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
Add taco seasoning, if using, and stir until combined. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
Step 3: Assemble the Burrito Braid
Lay the rolled dough on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Cut slits along the sides of the rectangle, about 1 inch apart, leaving the center intact for the filling.
Spread the cooked ground beef down the center of the dough.
Top with shredded cheese, lettuce, and a drizzle of taco sauce.
Step 4: Braid the Dough
Starting from one end, fold the slits over the filling, alternating sides to create a braid pattern.
Press the edges to seal.
Step 5: Bake
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Brush the top of the braid with beaten egg for a golden finish.
Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
Step 6: Serve
Allow to cool slightly before slicing. Serve with additional taco sauce on the side.
Presentation Tips
Cut the braid to showcase the filling and layer it on a colorful plate.
Garnish with fresh cilantro or avocado slices for added flair.
