Chinese-Style Chicken Nuggets
Ingredients
For the Chicken Nuggets:
1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
2 large eggs, beaten
1 cup panko breadcrumbs
Oil for frying
For the Glaze:
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup honey
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
1 clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 teaspoons water (optional, for thickening)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Chicken Nuggets
In a bowl, mix together the flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
Dip each piece of chicken into the flour mixture, then into the beaten eggs, and finally coat with panko breadcrumbs. Press the breadcrumbs onto the chicken to ensure they stick.
Step 2: Fry the Chicken
In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat oil over medium heat. Fry the chicken nuggets in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Step 3: Make the Glaze
In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, ginger, and garlic. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
If you prefer a thicker glaze, stir in the cornstarch mixture and cook until the sauce thickens slightly.
Step 4: Combine and Serve
In a large baking dish, toss the cooked chicken nuggets with the glaze until evenly coated.
Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the glaze to caramelize.
Presentation Tips
Serve the chicken nuggets warm in the baking dish, garnished with sesame seeds or sliced green onions for added color.
Pair with steamed rice or vegetables for a complete meal.
