Turtle Bars Recipe
These indulgent turtle bars combine layers of shortbread, caramel, chocolate, and pecans, making them a rich treat that’s easy to make and perfect for any occasion
Ingredients:
For the Crust:
Butter: 1 cup (2 sticks), softened
Brown Sugar: 1 cup, packed
All-Purpose Flour: 2 cups
Salt: ½ tsp
For the Topping:
Butter: ⅔ cup
Brown Sugar: ½ cup, packed
Heavy Cream: 2 tbsp
Pecans: 1 cup, chopped
Chocolate Chips: 1 cup
Directions:
1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
2. Make the Crust:
In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, flour, and salt until crumbly.
Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
Bake the crust for 15-18 minutes, or until light golden brown. Remove from oven and set aside.
3. Make the Caramel Topping:
In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
Stir in the brown sugar and heavy cream until the mixture is smooth and begins to bubble.
Simmer for 1 minute, then remove from heat.
Stir in the chopped pecans, and pour this caramel mixture evenly over the baked crust.
4. Bake Again:
Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 12-15 minutes, until the caramel is bubbly.
5. Add Chocolate Chips:
After removing the pan from the oven, sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot caramel layer.
Let them sit for 2-3 minutes until they soften, then spread the melted chocolate in an even layer over the top.
6. Cool and Serve:
Let the turtle bars cool completely, then cut into squares.
