KFC-Style Gravy
Recreate KFC’s famous rich, flavorful gravy at home with this simple recipe. It’s perfect for pouring over mashed potatoes, fried chicken, or biscuits.
Ingredients
Butter: 1/4 cup
All-Purpose Flour: 1/4 cup
Beef Bouillon Cube: 1
Chicken Bouillon Cube: 1
Water: 2 cups
Onion Powder: 1/2 teaspoon
Garlic Powder: 1/2 teaspoon
Black Pepper: 1/4 teaspoon, or to taste
Directions
Melt Butter:
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
Make the Roux:
Add the flour to the melted butter, whisking continuously. Cook for 3-5 minutes, stirring constantly, until the mixture turns golden brown. This is your roux and is the base for your gravy.
Add Bouillon and Water:
Dissolve the beef and chicken bouillon cubes in 2 cups of hot water. Gradually pour the bouillon mixture into the roux, whisking constantly to avoid lumps.
Season and Simmer:
Add the onion powder, garlic powder, and black pepper. Continue whisking and cook until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes. If it’s too thick, add a bit more water to reach your desired consistency.
Serve:
Once smooth and thickened, remove from heat and pour over your favorite dishes.
Tips:
If you like a deeper flavor, use a beef bouillon paste or concentrate instead of the cube.
To add richness, stir in a teaspoon of soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce.
