Louisiana Dirty Rice
A bold, flavorful classic from Louisiana! This Dirty Rice is packed with savory spices, tender meat, and perfectly cooked rice—a true Cajun favorite.
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef or pork (or a mix)
1/2 lb chicken livers, finely chopped (optional, for authentic flavor)
1 small onion, diced
1 green bell pepper, diced
2 stalks celery, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups cooked white rice
1 tsp Cajun seasoning
1/2 tsp smoked paprika
1/2 tsp dried thyme
Salt and black pepper to taste
2 tbsp vegetable oil or butter
1/4 cup chopped green onions (for garnish)
Directions
Cook the meat: Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground meat and chicken livers (if using). Cook until browned, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks.
Add the veggies: Stir in the onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic. Cook until the vegetables are tender, about 5-7 minutes.
Season the mix: Sprinkle in the Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
Mix in the rice: Add the cooked rice to the skillet. Stir until the rice is fully coated with the flavorful meat and vegetable mixture. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
Garnish and serve: Remove from heat, sprinkle with green onions, and serve warm as a main dish or a hearty side!
Enjoy this authentic taste of Louisiana, bursting with rich, soulful flavors!
