Fried Cabbage
Ingredients:
– 1 medium head of cabbage, chopped
– 6 slices of bacon, chopped
– 1 medium onion, chopped
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
– Salt and pepper to taste
– 2 tablespoons butter
– 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (optional)
– Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
1. Cook the Bacon:
– In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until it’s crispy. Remove the bacon and set it aside, leaving the bacon drippings in the skillet.
2. Sauté the Onion and Garlic:
– Add the chopped onion to the skillet with the bacon drippings and cook for 5-7 minutes until softened.
– Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
3. Cook the Cabbage:
– Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet, stirring to combine with the onion and garlic.
– Cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and begins to caramelize.
4. Season the Cabbage:
– Sprinkle the smoked paprika over the cabbage (if using) and stir to combine.
– Season with salt and pepper to taste.
– Add the butter to the skillet and let it melt, stirring it into the cabbage.
– If you prefer a tangy flavor, drizzle the apple cider vinegar over the cabbage and stir well.
5. Finish and Serve:
– Stir the cooked bacon back into the skillet with the cabbage.
– Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
