Ingredients:
1 cup all-purpose flour
¾ cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup milk
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ cup chopped nuts (optional)
¾ cup packed brown sugar
¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 ¾ cups hot water
Directions:
Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Prepare Batter: In an ungreased 9-inch square baking pan, mix together the flour, granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk, oil, and vanilla until smooth. If using nuts, fold them into the batter.
Add Topping: Sprinkle the brown sugar and ¼ cup of cocoa powder evenly over the batter. Pour the hot water over the top; do not stir.
Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 45 minutes, or until the center is set.
Serve: Remove from the oven and let it stand for a few minutes. Serve warm, spooning the pudding sauce from the bottom over each serving. This dessert pairs wonderfully with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
