Apple Pie Bread Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (or plain yogurt)
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and finely chopped (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work great)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (to toss the apples in)
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar (for topping)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for topping)

Instructions:

Step 1: Preheat Oven & Prepare the Pan

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan with butter or cooking spray, or line it with parchment paper for easy removal after baking.

Step 2: Prepare the Apples

  1. Peel, core, and chop the apples into small pieces. Toss them with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to prevent browning. Set aside.

Step 3: Mix Dry Ingredients

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.

Step 4: Cream Butter and Sugar

  1. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

Step 8: Make the Cinnamon Sugar Topping

  1. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the top of the batter in the pan.

Step 9: Bake

  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 60-70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs.
  2. If the top starts to brown too quickly, cover the bread loosely with foil and continue baking.

Step 10: Cool and Serve

  1. Once baked, allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  2. Slice and enjoy! The bread is delicious on its own, or you can serve it with a drizzle of glaze or a dollop of whipped cream.
