Grandma’s Cinnamon Sugar Sweet Bread

Grandma’s Cinnamon Sugar Sweet Bread

Moist, nostalgic, and layered with cinnamon sugar swirls — just like Grandma used to make!

Why You’ll Fall in Love with This Bread

This isn’t just any sweet bread. It’s the kind of recipe that fills your home with the warm scent of cinnamon, reminds you of childhood mornings, and tastes even better the next day. The swirl of cinnamon sugar throughout the moist, buttery loaf creates the perfect balance between sweet and comforting. It’s ideal for breakfast, snacks, gifting, or even a cozy dessert.

Ingredients

For the Bread Batter:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk or buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

For the Cinnamon Sugar Swirl:

  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

Optional (But Recommended) Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1–2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan with butter or line with parchment paper for easy removal.

Step 2: Make the Cinnamon Sugar

In a small bowl, mix the 1/3 cup sugar with the cinnamon. Set aside — this will become the swirl in your bread.

Step 3: Prepare the Batter

In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes with a hand mixer).
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Mix in the vanilla extract.
Add the flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix gently.
Slowly pour in the milk and mix just until combined. Don’t overmix — you want the bread to stay soft.

Step 4: Layer and Swirl

Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
Sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the top.
Add the rest of the batter, and then top with the remaining cinnamon sugar.
Using a butter knife, gently swirl the cinnamon sugar through the batter in a figure-eight motion. This creates beautiful cinnamon ribbons inside the bread.

Step 5: Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Optional Glaze

Once the bread is cool, mix powdered sugar with milk and vanilla to create a simple glaze. Drizzle over the top for extra sweetness and a professional finish.

Tips for Best Results

  • Don’t skip the swirl. That’s where the magic happens.
  • Use room temperature ingredients for a smooth batter.
  • Double the recipe and freeze a loaf for later — it freezes beautifully for up to 3 months.
  • For a richer taste, try adding a tablespoon of sour cream to the batter.
