Juicy, flavorful Salisbury steak patties topped with a rich mushroom gravy, perfect for a comforting and satisfying meal.
Ingredients:
For the Salisbury Steaks:
1 pound (500g) ground beef (80% lean)
1/3 cup panko breadcrumbs
1/3 cup tomato sauce or ketchup
1 large egg
1 teaspoon yellow mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
Salt, to taste
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
For the Mushroom Gravy:
1 onion, sliced
9 ounces (250g) button mushrooms, sliced
2 1/2 cups low-sodium beef broth
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
3 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 1/4 cup water (slurry)
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Directions:
Prepare the Salisbury Steaks:
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, tomato sauce, egg, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, pepper, and salt. Mix gently until just combined.
Shape the mixture into 4 oval patties.
Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 3 minutes on each side until browned. Remove from skillet and set aside.
Make the Mushroom Gravy:
In the same skillet, heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and mushrooms. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened and lightly browned.
Stir in onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour in the beef broth and bring to a simmer.
Slowly add the cornstarch slurry while stirring constantly. Cook until the gravy thickens, about 2-3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Combine and Serve:
Return the Salisbury steaks to the skillet, nestling them into the mushroom gravy.
Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10-12 minutes, or until the patties are fully cooked and flavorful.
Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired, and serve hot.
