Ingredients:

For the Salisbury Steaks:

1 lb (450g) ground beef

1/4 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup milk

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 clove garlic, minced

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 large egg

Salt and black pepper, to taste

1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for frying)

For the Mushroom Gravy:

2 cups beef broth

1 cup fresh mushrooms, sliced

2 tablespoons butter

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)

Salt and black pepper, to taste

For Serving:

Creamy mashed potatoes or cooked white rice

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Salisbury Steak Mixture:

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, and egg.

Season with salt and black pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Shape the mixture into 4 oval-shaped patties, similar to steaks.

2. Cook the Patties:

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

Add the patties to the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side until they are browned.

Transfer the patties to a plate and set aside.

3. Make the Mushroom Gravy:

In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.

Add the sliced mushrooms and cook until soft and golden.

Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms, stirring well to coat them. Cook for about 1 minute.

Gradually pour in the beef broth, stirring constantly to prevent lumps, until the sauce thickens.

Add the Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard (if using), and season with salt and black pepper to taste.

4. Simmer the Patties in the Gravy:

Return the patties to the skillet, nestling them into the mushroom gravy.

Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and let the patties simmer for about 10 minutes to absorb the flavors and cook through.

5. Serve:

Serve the Salisbury steaks hot with creamy mashed potatoes or white rice.

Spoon the rich mushroom gravy generously over the steaks and sides.

Tips:

For extra flavor, add a splash of red wine to the gravy while simmering.

Garnish with fresh parsley for a touch of color and freshness.

Adjust the thickness of the gravy by adding more broth or letting it simmer longer to reduce.

This hearty, classic Salisbury Steak recipe delivers tender beef patties smothered in a savory mushroom gravy — a comforting and satisfying dinner your whole family will love!
