The BEST Homemade Baked Mac and Cheese

 

Ingredients:

 

– 2 cups elbow macaroni

– 3 tablespoons butter

– 3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

– 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

– 1 teaspoon garlic powder

– 1/2 cup bread crumbs

– 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

– Salt and pepper, to taste

– 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

 

Instructions:

 

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure a perfectly baked top.

2. In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package directions until al dente, usually about 8 minutes. Drain and set aside. Bacon Cheeseburger Pockets

3. In a separate saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for about 2 minutes, stirring constantly to create a roux.

4. Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Mix until the cheese is completely melted and the sauce is smooth.

6. Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce, mixing until every piece of pasta is well coated.

7. Transfer the mac and cheese mixture to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.

8. In a small bowl, mix the bread crumbs with the grated Parmesan cheese, then sprinkle this mixture evenly over the top of the mac and cheese.

9. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
