- Cook Time: 5 minutes
- Total Time: 15 minutes
Ingredients:
For the Stir-Fry:
- 1 lb (450g) flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 yellow bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 2 teaspoons oyster sauce (optional for extra flavor)
- 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon black pepper (freshly cracked)
- Salt, to taste
For the Sauce:
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water (to thicken)
- 1/4 cup beef broth or water
Instructions:
Step 1: Preparing the Steak
- Slice the steak: Thinly slice your steak against the grain into bite-sized pieces. This helps make the meat more tender when cooked quickly.
- Marinate the steak: In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, oyster sauce (optional), and rice vinegar. Toss the steak slices in this Homemade Samoas Girl Scout Cookies marinade and set aside for 5-10 minutes.
Step 2: Making the Sauce
- In a separate bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, and beef broth (or water). In another small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water into a smooth slurry.
- Combine the ingredients to make a flavorful stir-fry sauce and set aside.
Step 3: Stir-Fry Cooking
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the steak to the pan in a single layer. Cook for about 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the steak is browned and cooked through. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- In the same pan, add the onion and bell peppers. Stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until they start to soften but still have a bit of crunch.
- Add the garlic and ginger to the pan and stir-fry for an additional 30 seconds, until fragrant.
- Return the steak to the pan. Add the prepared sauce and black pepper. Stir well to coat the beef and vegetables in the sauce. Let it simmer for about 1-2 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt and more black pepper if needed.
Step 4: Serving
- Serve your pepper steak stir-fry over steamed rice or with noodles for a quick, delicious meal.
- Garnish with chopped green onions, sesame seeds, or cilantro, if desired.
