How to Make Patty Melts
1. Prepare the Secret Sauce
In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle relish, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 20 minutes to let the flavors blend.
2. Caramelize the Onions
Heat butter and olive oil in a skillet over medium-low heat.
Add onions and a pinch of salt. Cook slowly for 20–25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until deep golden and sweet.
Set aside.
3. Cook the Beef Patties
In a bowl, mix ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
Form into 4 thin patties, slightly larger than the bread slices.
Cook in a hot skillet over medium-high heat for 3–4 minutes per side until browned and cooked through.
Remove and set aside.
4. Assemble the Patty Melts
Butter one side of each slice of bread.
On the unbuttered side, spread a generous layer of secret sauce.
Add cheese, a beef patty, caramelized onions, another slice of cheese, then top with another slice of bread (buttered side out).
5. Grill to Perfection
Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.
Cook each sandwich for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.
Serving Suggestions
- Serve hot with crispy fries, onion rings, or a simple side salad.
- Add pickles or coleslaw for extra crunch.
Tips for the Best Patty Melt
